The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council has approved the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF) and the BioCarbon Fund Initiative for Sustainable Forest Landscapes (ISFL) standards as eligible programs under the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) for Phase 1 (2024-2026).
The approval confirms that FCPF and ISFL standards meet CORSIA’s Emissions Unit Eligibility Criteria, including requirements related to environmental and social integrity. For participating countries, approval enables CORSIA-eligible credits to be used under for compliance purposes under CORSIA Phase 1, offering a potential pathway to mobilize revenue from high-integrity carbon credits for climate-smart development.
The FCPF and ISFL, administered by the World Bank, will continue to support participating countries as they strengthen institutional readiness and governance frameworks for engagement in international carbon markets.
